   2009 State AD of the Year

Joe Beran, CAA of La Crosse Central High School
was selected as the state's Athletic Director of
the Year for 2009.

The prestigious award was presented during the
43rd annual WADA Workshop in Wisconsin Dells.
Almost 400 athletic directors from all around
Wisconsin plus nearly 100 vendors from the state
and midwest were on hand for the annual convention,
held each fall.

Beran received a plaque to honor his selection as
the organization’s top AD award recipient during the
WADA Awards Luncheon sponsored by Healy.
 

 
  “Joe Beran has done an exceptional job in
  replacing the legendary Dick Hackett.  He has
  a strong work ethic and he is an advocate for
  the student athletes and the coaches.  Joe is
  respected in the conference and throughout the
  state and is a valuable asset to WADA.”

Beran has been the Director of Activities at La Crosse
Central High School since 1997.  He also is the
Treasurer for the WADA, a position on the WADA
Executive Board of Directors, and, he has been the
Registration Coordinator for the annual state convention
for the past 8 years.

Beran also was chosen to receive the NIAAA State
Award of Merit for 2009.

He was a classroom teacher for 7 years (1990-97),
as well as a softball coach for 7 years and an
assistant football coach for 5 years for the Red
Raiders at La Crosse Central.

Beran started in 1986 at La Crosse Logan High
School, and he was also an assistant coach at
that school for 5 seasons.
